Supporting North Studio: A Vinyl Flooring Installation in Roundhay, Leeds

At Moda Flooring, we love working with local businesses, especially when it’s for such an inspiring client. Our latest commercial flooring project required us to provide a suitable hardwearing vinyl flooring solution for North Studio in Roundhay, Leeds — the popular fitness and well-being space founded by Rachel Woolford, winner of the BBC's The Apprentice.

North Studio is growing quickly, with locations in Leeds and Harrogate, offering expertly led fitness classes, strength training, yoga, and more. With this exciting expansion, Rachel invested in upgrading the studio environment, and we were proud to be part of that journey.

The Challenge: Commercial Flooring That’s Stylish, Practical, and Hard-Wearing

When it comes to commercial flooring, especially in high-traffic fitness settings, the brief is clear — the floor must be durable, safe, easy to maintain, and look professional.

The existing subfloor in North Studio’s new space wasn’t quite ready to go — it needed levelling to ensure a flawless finish. With constant foot traffic, intense workouts, and frequent cleaning, every detail of the installation had to be just right.

Step-by-Step: Preparing and Installing Vinyl Flooring for North Studio

To get the surface ready for the new vinyl flooring, we began with a full subfloor preparation. Using a high-quality smoothing compound, we levelled the existing floor to remove any imperfections and ensure a stable base for the flooring. This step is vital in commercial settings — even minor unevenness can lead to wear or movement over time.

Once the surface was fully prepared and dry, we installed the vinyl flooring using strong commercial-grade adhesive. The vinyl was carefully laid and bonded to the subfloor, creating a sleek, continuous surface.

To finish the floor, we sealed the edges with silicone. This step ensures the floor is watertight — ideal for a fitness studio where frequent cleaning is essential.

Safety First: Slip-Rated Nosings for High-Traffic Areas

No commercial flooring installation is complete without considering safety. For this project, we fitted black slip-rated nosings on the edges of the studio steps. These provide essential grip and visibility, helping reduce the risk of slips or trips — especially in an active space like North Studio.

They also offer additional durability, protecting the vinyl at key wear points and extending the life of the flooring.

Why Vinyl Flooring Is Perfect for Fitness Studios

Vinyl flooring is fast becoming a favourite choice for fitness and wellness spaces — and with good reason:

  • Durable and long-lasting, even with heavy footfall

  • Water-resistant and easy to clean

  • Provides a smooth, professional appearance

  • Soft underfoot with some cushioning, ideal for movement-based activities

  • Cost-effective without compromising on style

For commercial use, it strikes the perfect balance between practicality and appearance.

A Local Business Backed by Local Trades

This project was more than just a flooring job — it was a chance to support a fellow Leeds business that’s doing great things. Rachel and the team at North Studio have created a welcoming, motivating environment that helps people improve their physical and mental well-being — and we’re proud that our flooring plays a small part in that.
